An important concept that we learn as coaches is the idea and practice of “holding space” for our clients.
Holding space for someone means that you’re providing a safe container for their emotions.
What makes the container safe is that it is a judgement-free zone.
Having this safe space available means that the person can process their thoughts and feelings for themselves.
This safe space is equally as important to create for ourselves, within ourselves.
Ask yourself these questions to assess how strong your container is for your own personal growth:
Where do I judge myself most harshly?
What are the words I use against myself when I think of this?
How can I support myself in looking at my situation without judgement?
If there was no judgement, would he actions I’m taking be different?
If there was no judgement, what feelings would be allowed to arise?
