I went to check out the lactation room at the power plant that I work at today.
I had used it a few years back after having my second baby, and I wanted to see if the room was still functional.
It’s a nice room, and just the fact that it exists is a huuuuuge step forward.
It’s great that a location that only has a handful of women working there at any given moment understands the importance of having a lactation room available for new moms.
I’ve been lucky that my company does give paid maternity leave, and has facilities like our lactation room for women who choose to have children and choose to breastfeed.
It is important for me, as a woman in STEM to advocate for things like lactation rooms to help ease the way for women that come after me.
Also, it is important for me as a woman in a leadership role to help to normalize women and women’s concerns in the workplace, where maybe no one else is thinking about them.
I hope that it will make it a little easier, a little better, for others.
If your a mom, what kind of support do you wish that you had at your job?
